Some Notes of Personal History

Born in 15th July of 1959 at Catania (Sicily), in the CITY OF THE SWAN (namely Vincenzo Bellini , the famous music composer of the XIX century who composed the Norma, the Puritani end other pieces), the city of Giovanni Verga (one of the most important italian writers, one of Fathers of the Modern Italian Language), and other writers like Vitaliano Brancati, and famous physicist Ettore Maiorana and many others;

The place where I was born is exactly in front of the little harbour of Ognina (the famous harbour of Verga's 'I Malavoglia' ) ; the name of my father is Antonino, retired taxes inspector; my mother , Melina, housewife, was died at the age of 38.

My father, of humble origin, born at Catania 70 years ago, is originary of a little town of the hinterland of Enna, Centuripe (provided only in italian)

(the city was a siceliotic village 'libera et immunis civitas' under the Roman domination, one of the 3 Sicilian cities with this privilege - e.g. Cicerone's Verrine- along with Segesta and Alesa). My mother was born in a village at the foot of Etna, Belpasso, well known for the little 'torrone' (little kind of nougat).

I lose my mother at the age of 16 (my mother was of only 38). I frequented primary school and secondary school in varied parts of Italy (Imperia, Livorno, Ragusa, Catania, i.e. North and South Italy), because of the frequent transfers of which was object my father for his occupation. I have attended the first 2 years of the Scientific High School in Catania (Sicily), and the last 3 years finally in Pisa (Tuscany); I arrived in this city in fact in the 1975. I graduated in the 1978 with 52/ 60 in the Scientific High School 'Ulisse Dini' of Pisa. Entered at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Pisa, I graduated with full vote in 5 years and 2 sessions in the 1984 (in Italy the course of study in Medicine is of 6 years). Among the 1986 and the 1987 I did Military Service in quality of Physician Officer at the Parachutist Brigade 'Folgore' in 1986. Specialized with Praise in the 1989 in Internal Medicine my medical interest was concentrate expecially to Diagnostic with Ultrasound. For 2 academic consecutive years (1992-1993 and 1993-1994), I was Professor on Contract for Diagnostic with Ultrasound during the Corse of Specialization of Internal Medicine in the University of Pisa. For the subsequent years, until 1997, I was voluntary resercher in the Institute of Clinical Medicine II of University of Pisa.

Since 1987 my interest was concentrated on Ultrasonography.In 1989 I begun scientific reserches in the field of Clinical Ultrasound, expecially in abdominal pathologies.I received 3 national awards (in 1990, 1993 and 1994) for best scientific communications presented at the Congresses of Italian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (SIUMB) . In 1994 I was invited as chairman in the session od spleen in the 7th congress of World federations of Ultrasound at Sapporo (Japan).

OTHER INTERESTS

In spite of my certificate of scientific upper-school I always have cultivated humanistic interests. Since the time of the high school I was passionately fond of philosophy and literature, and with the secret hobby of writing, I won even some awards in regional POETRY competitions. Since 1990 I devoted myself to the study of Ancient History (expecially Greek and Roman), Ancient Numismatics, Archeology and antiques.

In this last period I have gone deep into medieval history , expecially the crusader period; I have studied also the religious orders (Templars, Knigts of Malta and so on) and concerning matters

I play piano and guitar since young age. In the last 2 years I've studied Sax.

My passion is jazz music (very very difficoult to perform), but trying to play it is , all the same, an exciting experience .

My political vocation is moderate and liberalist, cosmopolite. I'm a convinced supporter of Political and Cultural Eritage of Italy . I'm of Roman Catholic Faith with no prejudices against races, cultures and different faiths. I'm a convinced supporter of the Universality of Uman Thought in whatever form, colour and way can show itself.
